Lifestyle Factors Affecting Abdominal Obesity Among Korean Adolescents: Analysis of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Dan Hyun-Ju

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify lifestyle factors related to abdominal obesity and its prevalence in Korean adolescents.

Methods: Data from 812 adolescences aged 12 to 18 years who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2017-2018) were analyzed. Abdominal obesity was defined as a waist circumference above the 90th percentile for sex and age using the 2007 growth chart for Korean children. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine lifestyle factors related to abdominal obesity.

Results: The prevalence of abdominal obesity among participants was 11.9%. Weight control efforts and number of days per week with at least 60 minutes of physical activity were lifestyle factors affecting abdominal obesity in Korean adolescents.

Conclusion: To prevent and manage abdominal obesity among Korean adolescents, intervention programs that encourage weight control efforts and physical activities are needed.
